Straight blades are the most frequently used for trimming.
The hooked blade, which is usually sharpened only on the inside of the hook, is preferred for lino and vinyl when the hook prevents the blade from slipping out of the cut.
Curved blades are often preferred for cutting at angles. There is a special blade for laminates.
