Powered planers are the powered version of the classic woodworking hand plane; they are capable of removing large amounts of material with the minimum of effort and in most cases will give a good clean finish. Whilst they cannot match hand planes for finish they are able to plane man made boards such as MDF and Chipboard. Typically, these tools can remove 1.5mm of material with each pass although some can go deeper.
